4 Tips to Be The Best Neighbor You Can Be

No matter who you are, everyone wants to live in harmony with their neighbor, and for the most part, everyone can. However, sometimes neighbors do not get on with each other, and neither side is willing to accept they may have not acted nicely. If you’re moving into a new home soon, you should try to get off the right foot with your new neighbors, whether they’re right next door or across the street. How can you make sure you are the best neighbor, though? Consider these four tips.v

Introduce Yourself

There is a lot to do when you’re first moving in. There are boxes on top of boxes; you’re worried about arranging the living room perfectly, and you’re unsure whether the oven even works. However, you should also take the time to introduce yourself to the neighbors. Ideally, they have poked their head out of the door to say hello, and this gives you the chance to make a good first impression. If they haven’t, you can stop by once the dust has settled and say hello for the first time.

Keep The Noise Down

If you’re fresh out of university or have decided to move out of their city and into the suburbs, you may have a different definition of what noise is to others. This could disturb your neighbors, especially if you’re partying well into the night. The occasional celebration is okay, but you can’t throw huge ragers every week, especially if you share walls with other homes. If you’re concerned about being too loud, you could learn how a noise monitoring sound level meter can prevent noise complaints. This will help you keep an eye on the volume and make changes before it becomes a problem.

Take Care of the Mess

No one likes a messy home, and your neighbors will not want to look at an overgrown lawn or littered driveway all day long. Taking care of your mess is a must for being a good neighbor, and even just being a good person, it will also go a long way towards keeping your home pest-free and preventing infestations from a wide range of critters. Allowing the mess to get too much will only make the eventual tidy-up worse, so stay on top of it as much as possible.

Deal With Problems Like an Adult

There will be occasions where you and your neighbor do not see eye to eye, and there are a few ways to deal with this. You could scream the house down, or you could take a mature route and speak to them like adults. This allows you to understand what they want and you can work together to find a solution. If the problems persist from there, consider making complaints through official channels to solve the problem, but this is only in severe cases.

Happy Homes

Just like your family, you cannot pick your neighbors, so you may as well try to make the most of what you have. There will undoubtedly be some problems along the way, especially as you try to gauge one another, but as long as you remain cordial and accommodating (without bending over backward) you will stand out as the best neighbor on the block.
